Weinhotel Hubertus

We spent a long time deciding whether to review Weinhotel Hubertus in Klotten, but feel we should share what happened during our five-day stay. We’d looked forward to time on the Moselle, wine, and the Hofweinfest in Pomerania on September 17, 2025. My wife used to holiday near Klotten when she was young and had never been treated as rudely as she was here. On arrival, the “boss,” if that was who she was, made us feel like a nuisance. We had booked two rooms with balconies and were given two keys, then sent to the hotel across the street. Its entrance was locked after 8 p.m. Without a key, we’d have had to go about 10 metres farther and use a set of stairs. We’d stated when booking that two people had crutches and a walker, so that route would have been difficult. When we asked about an entrance key, we were eventually handed one with an exasperated comment from reception. The rooms themselves were fine, and the balcony view of the garden was very good. We were lucky with the weather and could sit outside. In bad weather, though, we’d have been stuck in our room or had to find another wine bar. There was nowhere to sit inside the hotel. When we asked about using a room that seemed to have been a restaurant, we were rudely told there was no space. That was hard to understand, given the hotel information online and in the folder said guests could relax in the garden. Drinks were available across the street only until 8 p.m., after which we were left with none. It felt like being in a retirement home. Finding another wine bar was difficult with someone on crutches and the hilly surroundings. The wine shop by the Moselle was closed Wednesday and Thursday. Housekeeping was another mess. We were fine with the signs asking not to clean, and later requesting cleaning. We arrived Wednesday; the no-cleaning sign went up Thursday, so the room wasn’t cleaned. On Friday morning we put up the cleaning sign, but nothing had happened by 11:30. Reception gave an annoyed reply that the rooms were still being cleaned. We were out of toilet paper and asked for some to be left. The room still wasn’t cleaned, no paper was replenished, the cleaner couldn’t be reached, and the woman at reception disappeared when we approached. Our fellow traveller was asked if she had toilet paper. When she said we didn’t, the “boss” vanished again. We were furious and bought our own. We’ve never experienced anything like it at a hotel, especially at this price. The next day we put up another sign, and then the beds were made and the bathroom had toilet paper. Ridiculous. The hotel seemed almost full by Friday. We tried to pay around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday because we wanted to leave very early. The unfriendly receptionist said payment wasn’t possible until 8:30 the next morning. We were at reception at 8:00 a.m. and waited ten minutes. Then a very friendly woman came and we were able to settle the bill. We won’t book this hotel again and can’t really recommend it.

It was very quiet here and not too crowded. The hotel is nice, and both service and breakfast were excellent, with everything we could have wanted. I highly recommend it.

The owners, the Franzen family, were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is older, but pleasant and clean, and breakfast was delicious. Thanks for all your care. We’ll definitely come back.
