Gut Bielenberg

Our civil ceremony at Gut Bielenberg was for around 60 people, and even with unexpected changes and complications, the team handled everything with real courtesy and professionalism. The setting was beautiful, and we could just enjoy the day. We’d happily recommend Gut Bielenberg.

The quiet surroundings were a real treat, with plenty of chance to walk, and Glückstadt is only about a 10-minute drive away. At breakfast, the food was thoughtfully prepared with lovely local products, and the waitress was so attentive and friendly. They even decorated our table for my boyfriend’s birthday and left two little muffins in the room. Our arrival was easy too, since the instructions had been sent by text beforehand and we found both the key and room without trouble. The room was beautifully furnished and cozy. We slept with the window open, listening to the trees and the Elbe. Such a lovely stay, and we’ll definitely return.

The location behind the dike is lovely, and the mostly natural grounds are well kept. Our room was spacious, clean, and nicely furnished. There were two small bottles of water, two warm beers, a little capsule coffee machine, a kettle, and two granola bars. Still, this was a disappointing stay. The online listing described a prestigious four-star hotel with a café, garden, and exceptional service. We got several emails before arrival, some automated, and a call about check-in. When we arrived at 3 p.m., the hotel was locked and empty. We found the key in a safe by the entrance, and a map at the back made it fairly easy to locate the room. We were the only guests, so there was no service to judge, let alone the outstanding service advertised. A friendly staff member prepared breakfast the next morning and tried to meet individual requests as far as possible. But at €25 per person, I question whether what was provided was worth the price. There may be understandable reasons for running the hotel this way, but guests should be told at booking that they’re only getting a room in an otherwise closed building. The value for money was extremely poor. Such a shame.

The one small letdown for us was the TV. We found it overwhelming trying to connect Freenet TV and a phone to it, though that’s not Gut Bielenberg’s fault. We’ve stayed at Gut Bielenberg twice now, and we’ll be back again. The Suite Hafenblick is spacious and furnished with care and good taste. Breakfast was another highlight: no buffet, but it was lovingly prepared, generous, and varied on each of our three days. The attentive service team made this a very special place.
