The owners are friendly and make you feel at home, and the house is lovely and remarkably quiet. A little river beside the road makes a soft burbling sound. From the beautifully renovated house, you can follow a path straight to the Elbe, sometimes past grazing sheep. Some are cuddly and come over for a cuddle, if you’re into that. It really feels like living like royalty. Look into the marshlands before you go. Glückstadt nearby is a charming little town with nice restaurants, and Hamburg is about 50 minutes away by motorway. Great for coming back to again. The Wi-Fi can be unreliable at times.

Moldy grains of rice on the kitchen counter and tomato marks on the wall were the final touches on a very poor stay. My husband was there on business, and internet and mobile access were essential for us. Despite the website and Booking.com saying otherwise, the accommodation had no Wi-Fi, internet, or mobile network. He had to drive several kilometers away at night and sit in the car with his laptop to deal with important emails from the day. The apartment was freezing when he arrived and hadn’t been preheated. Its small underfloor heating system still hadn’t warmed it by morning. After one brief phone call, the woman said, “Unfortunately, we failed to mention that the internet connection is often unreliable.” She couldn’t offer an alternative room at another accommodation, so my husband left that morning despite our two-night booking. We’ve also repeatedly asked by email for an invoice, which businesses need to avoid tax office problems, and still haven’t received one. After many calls and emails, neither Booking.com nor the accommodation provided any clarification or response. They ignored us, and getting anyone on the phone was a disaster. We can’t understand the good reviews. Stay away. We’ve never had service this unprofessional.

The renovation is lovely, and it’s completely peaceful. It was as clean as you’d expect, which is still unusual around Glückstatt. I’d definitely recommend it.

The landlady is lovely, and the apartment in this beautiful house is furnished with care. It’s a great choice whether you’re staying a night or a whole week.
