Romantik Hotel Barbarossa

I came away with a lovely memory of Hotel Barbarossa after visiting in early October. The staff were genuinely nice and happy to tell us about the city and the hotel. You can see the place's long history in its centuries-old walls and wooden pillars, alongside newer parts from the early twentieth century. Photos on the walls, old cupboards, and the restaurant's stained glass all help tell that story. It felt very different from other places I've stayed recently, and I really liked it.

Konstanz is easy to explore from here, with almost all the sights just a few minutes away on foot. The hotel itself is very nice for the price, the food is excellent, the rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly. My one real gripe was the chunky room key, which is annoying to carry around all day. Reception stays staffed until 11 pm, though, so you can leave it there if you don't plan to be out all night.

We were very happy with the hotel overall. The location is terrific, right in the old town with pedestrian streets just outside, and the staff were very friendly and spoke English well. Breakfast had a good range of choices, and the coffee came in a great pot. Since we stayed toward the end of October, the rates were good value. The hotel felt a little dated, there were no washcloths in the bathroom, and the bed creaked. Still, it worked well for us.

We've enjoyed every stay at the Barbarossa and hope to come back again. The rooms are comfortable and well cared for, and both breakfast and dinner are high quality, with plenty of breakfast choices. From the moment you walk in, the staff make you feel welcome. They're attentive, polite, and always ready to help with a smile.
