Pension Köthen

The steep stairs make this a poor choice for elderly people. The bathroom wasn't very clean and was on a different floor from the bedrooms, and neither of the two TVs worked. The furnishings were okay. Some rooms only had winter bedding, which was far too warm in summer under a thick blanket.

The rooms were practical and clean, and I slept really well. The place looks plain and uninviting from outside, but inside the courtyard it's lovely, with a peaceful inner yard and a nicely landscaped garden. I'd happily come back.

The owner was very polite, and when we found the can opener broken, a new one arrived straight away. Everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable and clean, and there are three toilets with showers. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped. I'd give it six stars if I could.

They wouldn't let us into the guesthouse, saying there was no staff available to check us in. The technician was a foreigner who didn't speak German, though English would have worked. Then the guesthouse told Booking that we hadn't arrived on time, kept the money, and canceled the booking. No refund. It's simply a scam, just criminal.
