Hotel Kriftelerhof

The breakfast was just pre-packaged croissants, so keep your expectations modest. Still, the staff were friendly, helpful, and the place was clean. It’s a shame the Korean restaurant downstairs can make some noise late at night. I’d recommend it, but don’t expect too much.

At least the parking and Wi-Fi earned this place one star, and the heating worked too. Otherwise, calling it a hotel feels like a disgrace to the industry. There was no German-speaking staff, reception, proper entrance area, or breakfast. My bed was chipboard with an eight-centimeter foam pad, and the pillow was barely a pillow. The rooms smelled of stagnant water and kitchen waste.

I booked the Kriftelerhof at the last minute for a work trip because it was close to my workplace. It wasn’t even cheap, and I’d never stay there again. Absolutely terrible, zero stars. There was a bed and bathroom, and that was about all the room had going for it. It was dirty, the bathroom was barely usable, and a lot of the furnishings were broken. A sofa cushion had been left on a mattress hard as a concrete slab, apparently meant to serve as a pillow. There was no toilet paper, soap, or towels. I only noticed the toilet paper was missing before using the bathroom. I ended up using the pillowcase as a towel, and the only thing I found was a woman’s shampoo bottle someone had left behind. I was annoyed there wasn’t breakfast, but quickly became glad there wasn’t.

There’s no heating in the bathroom, so it gets very cold. At €80 for a double room, it’s far too expensive. It feels more like a youth hostel.
