Schlosshotel Kronberg - Hotel Frankfurt

The breakfast room was stunning and had a lovely atmosphere that made each morning special. We stayed for three nights and found it very comfortable. The view was beautiful and so relaxing, and we really enjoyed our time here.

Rahel at reception deserves a huge shout out. She was an absolute ray of sunshine, a delight to deal with, and made our whole stay. The staff were attentive and friendly and went above and beyond. We had an incredible time in this stunning castle, with immaculate rooms full of character. Thank you, Rahel and the team, for a memory I’ll never forget.

The castle and gardens are an experience in themselves, like going back a hundred years. We were upgraded to a bigger room, and the bed was very large, though firmer than we like, which seems common in Germany. The bathroom felt small for the room, because of the building’s layout. The room looked lavish but had very few facilities: no tea or coffee maker, only two towels and two small water glasses, no cutlery or cups, and no Chromecast or Apple TV. It was also extremely warm, with no way to turn off the heating. The AC panel did nothing, presumably because the system is disabled in winter and the heating is centrally controlled. Opening the windows was the only option, which wastes a lot of energy. Breakfast was good, but at €45 per person it’s very expensive when it’s not included. We skipped the main restaurant because of the prices and lack of reviews. Its three-course menu starts at €135. Room service was good quality, but costly too: mains start at €30, plus €10 to bring food to the room. The cocktails we had at the bar were very mediocre for the price. The village is a 20-minute walk or five-minute drive away, with more affordable options. The hotel also draws lots of day visitors for afternoon tea and guided tours, so expect groups in the hallways and parking that’s often completely full. One time when we tried to enter, a staff member brusquely asked if we had a reservation, apparently assuming we weren’t hotel guests. The place could be much better with a few relatively minor changes.

The hotel is lovely and the rooms are very nice, but for a five-star place, it’s a major drawback that guests don’t have an accessible lobby area to sit with coffee or tea. There’s no complimentary tea or coffee in the rooms either. We were here for a special occasion. The one lobby area looked lovely but was full and short on space, so we waited almost an hour with our small child for a seat. Nobody from the staff came over or offered help. When a spot opened and we sat down, one staff member immediately said it was reserved and told us to leave, without explaining more. We did, then another staff member soon told us we could sit there, apparently because the first person had assumed we weren’t guests. We returned, but the first staff member again said the table was booked for another guest. She explained that guest preferred to wait in their room and be called when a spot opened, rather than wait downstairs. The staff didn’t agree on whether lobby seating was by reservation or first come, first served. After an hour of waiting, finding out there was a booking system for something as simple as coffee, with no one telling us, was frustrating. It felt as though our hour of waiting during a special occasion didn’t matter. They did reserve us a place for that evening, which we appreciated. But when we asked to book for the next day, they said they’d stopped taking reservations. The lobby was full again the next day. We waited another 20 minutes for a space to open, only to be told it was booked for someone else. The unclear process, poor communication and inconsistent treatment really took away from our stay. We wouldn’t choose to return, and hope they can sort this out.
