Drexels Parkhotel am Schloss

Drexels was a great choice for my four-day business trip to Krumbach. The hotel is close to the center, and the small village is nice. My room was spacious, clean, and had modern furniture, with a well-equipped bathroom and beds with perfect mattresses. The window seemed a little small, but daylight filled the room, so it wasn’t a problem. Breakfast was tasty, with the standard dishes. Nothing to criticize, a very nice stay.

We spent one night here before going to Legoland, about 25 minutes away. The town was charming, with a nice forest hike nearby. At the hotel, we liked the restaurant, the great-value breakfast, and the parking. The location was good, near both the center and a pretty park, and the rooms were spacious and clean.

The village is charming, and its architecture reflects German culture. The scenery feels carefully tended, much like the diligence people associate with Germany. At the hotel, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and the people were friendly and smiley. Good job!

My family and I stayed at the Drexel Hotel in Krumbach for ten days. It’s a budget to mid-range hotel with a lot going for it. A few small drawbacks first: there were no tea or coffee facilities in the bedrooms, as is common in Germany; the restaurant was closed on Mondays; and there was no separate bar area or sitting room. The rooms and bathrooms were immaculate every day. I’ve stayed in hotels throughout Europe and the US, and I’ve never seen such high standards of cleanliness. The cleaning was faultless. Breakfast had plenty of options, the food was plentiful, the tables were spotless, and staff were there if we needed help. The restaurant was a particular highlight. There was enough choice to suit different tastes without stretching the kitchen too thin, and the cooking was exemplary. A meal at Drexel is easy to recommend. The waitresses were patient and knowledgeable when helping me, as a non-German speaker, with the menu. Apart from one rather odd exception, the staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and polite. They went out of their way to make our stay in Krumbach a delight, and when my grandson was rushed to hospital, they couldn’t have been more considerate or done more to help. The restaurant manager was an oddity. For those from the UK, he’s Bavaria’s answer to Basil Fawlty. His mix of obsequiousness and officiousness, along with his obsession with napkin origami, might be comic if he weren’t so arrogant and disrespectful to his staff. I doubt they share the joke. Now our daughter lives in Krumbach, and we look forward to staying at the Drexel hotel again.
