There’s no air conditioning, and hardly any breeze because the place is surrounded by a beautiful forest on the hillside, so be prepared for that. The hotel has lots of character and definitely fits the Bavarian feel. The castle and plenty of trails are only minutes away. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, and it seems popular with the locals too. The room had everything I needed, and there’s also a gym, lounge, and sauna.

The service was great, and we enjoyed our stay enough to come back. The rooms are clean, nice, and spacious enough for two. It’s a comfortable hotel for couples and families, though it isn’t trying to be a luxury five-star place. The small balcony in each room is a nice touch. We arrived at night and got our key easily through the keybox by contacting the front desk. The breakfast seemed average at first, but it tasted great, and everything from the eggs to the pastries was fresh. The dining room was calm, with excellent music. I was very pleasantly surprised when we arrived, since the reviews had been mediocre. A couple of little things could be better: the pillows are so soft that I had to fold them several times for head support, and I couldn’t find any vending machines for late-night snacks, unless I missed them.

The breakfast selection was good, and we did enjoy parts of our stay. The hotel is in beautiful surroundings, and we were warmly welcomed. Though a little dated, it was clean and had some charm. Still, I left disappointed by the manager or owner’s lack of professionalism. I’d booked this hotel for my partner’s birthday and mentioned that when booking. I chose it for the attractive spa, which we really enjoy, but only one sauna and the steam room were running. The other sauna was switched off, and the plunge pool was out of service. When I raised this, the manager was completely indifferent and said it was normal not to have all the spa facilities open. I also said we were unhappy with our room, which faced the staff courtyard. On the first day, builders putting up scaffolding woke us, and on the second, a staff member was cutting their nails right outside our window at about 8 a.m. I could understand being given that room if the hotel were full, but it was clearly only around 30-40% occupied. The manager showed no concern, didn’t apologize, and didn’t explain why we’d been assigned such a bad room.

Stay away. I had the misfortune of being here earlier this year, and it was disgusting. It didn’t look like the rooms were ever cleaned. They kept putting out the same leftover food from the day before, even though I saw mold on it. When I arrived in daylight, the place was locked and nobody was at the hotel or front desk. The halls were dark, cleaning supplies and what I assume were dirty sheets had been left out, several doors weren’t secure, and the hallways smelled of smoke. My room was filthy. The red carpet had a white film and what looked like dead skin all over it. I don’t usually look for things like that, but it was obvious as soon as I walked in that it hadn’t been cleaned. There was dust everywhere, the room smelled like smoke, and the smoke detector had been removed at some point. The bathroom wasn’t clean either, and the upholstery had oil stains and dead skin stuck to it. I couldn’t ask to move rooms for the first couple of days because there was no staff at the hotel and no contact information was provided. Customer service was poor. When I finally raised concerns in my last day or so, they seemed bothered. The breakfast staff were unwilling and grudging about serving me. There was one decent woman working there, but that was it. Apart from the location, I don’t understand what people see in this place. The place won’t be cleaned up anytime soon. If you ignore the warning, maybe you’ll come back later and find your dead skin cells still there too. Gross.

The uphill climb is stunning, and the building itself makes quite an impression. The rooms are very outdated and cramped, though. A lantern just about a meter from my window kept the light coming in because the curtains didn’t block it. Breakfast was pretty basic.
