Hotel Gasthof Zum Bad

The room had only two towels even though we booked for four. I found out after showering, so I used my wife's wet towel, and our 16- and 18-year-old kids had to share one. We also couldn't take our little dog to breakfast, which meant my youngest daughter stayed in the room without eating. At checkout they tried to charge us again for a stay I'd prepaid more than two months earlier. I checked my bank account and confirmed the payment had gone through, then still paid an extra 20 euro for the dog. That's the most I've paid for a dog on a one-night stay, though by then I wasn't surprised. We were a family of four with a little dog, and the hotel was described as pet friendly. We didn't feel welcome at all. The older woman at check-in was annoyed and rude because we hadn't contacted them ahead of time about bringing the dog. We'd stayed at five other places in Germany, and in Italy, France, Switzerland, and Denmark over this and last summer, all listed as pet friendly, and none had asked us to give advance notice. Other places we'd stayed also had no problem with dogs at breakfast. Don't go here.

The restaurant was the big plus for me: the kitchen is really good, with fine dining as well as smaller dishes for hotel guests. Rooms are good value, and the interior is new. There's a wellness area too. Breakfast isn't an upscale spread, but there's something for everyone.

The room was very clean, and the staff were friendly. It was also quiet from midnight until 8, which worked well for arriving late and leaving early, though the churches can interrupt that. The location is handy for driving from The Netherlands or Scandinavia toward Slovenia or Croatia. Given the travelers passing through, I expected the bar to be open around 23:00 and the mattress to be over 2m long. Breakfast was included, but there wasn't much for someone who can't have gluten and lactose, as with most hotel breakfasts.

The food at the hotel's Michelin rated restaurant was amazing. Dinner comes as a prefix menu. The ambience could be better.
