The afternoon cake was a real treat, especially with an eggnog. For a little while, everything felt right. The hotel itself is cozy and we felt at home, and the few staff members were kind and always ready to help. Still, the staffing shortage showed in places. With one chef covering two hotels, guests ate at either Anker's Hörn or Hilligenley, and the dinner menu was very limited, just two choices. I’d expected something different, though the food we had was delicious. The whirlpool was broken and couldn’t be used, which was a shame. We didn’t try the sauna, but it was available.

The food was a highlight: breakfast had a good range and quality, and dinner was a superb three courses. In the morning we chose between fish and meat. Service was attentive, polite, and efficient, and if you ask nicely, they’ll bring you what you need. The bikes and whirlpool could use a technical upgrade, though. We also really enjoyed talking with the staff and owner. The place has a personal, low-key feel and a kind of Frisian warmth, with friendly honesty instead of forced cheerfulness. We liked that a lot. We came in November, after the busy season, and the Hallig was already completely shut down. Still, the solitude, birds, wind, waves, and wide-open views kept us happy for four days. There wasn’t a tree or bush in sight, and we didn’t get bored. We would gladly have stayed longer. It’s worth remembering that a Hallig isn’t an island, and a 10-room hotel isn’t a 5-star luxury resort in Ibiza. North Frisians aren’t Bavarians either. They’re friendly and polite in their own way. Anker's Hörn is our new favorite for a short break. We hope we can visit the Hallig again. To everyone who looked after us, have a lovely winter, and see you soon!

The four days at Anker's Hörn were peaceful, with lots of countryside around us. The small hotel was only about half full, so there was plenty of room to unwind. That part was excellent. The dinner setup is a little awkward since Anker's Hörn and partner Hilligenley are the only places to eat on the island, leaving guests dependent on them. Neither offers a proper à la carte menu anymore. In the evenings, the only choices are the limited dishes included in the half-board menu. The website still says something different, so its information is outdated. Half-board meals were mostly okay, but quite basic for a four-star hotel. Soup with a slice of bread, a small side salad, or an amuse-bouche would have helped, and there’s room to improve while keeping the price reasonable. After we left, we spotted a small mistake on our final bill that went against us: some drinks had been charged to our room even though they weren’t ours. I emailed the hotel, but got no reply. Other guests told us that errors with drink bills or assigning consumption to rooms weren’t unusual. The hotel gives rooms both names and numbers, which can be confusing since at first you’re only told the room name, not the number.

The North Sea view was fantastic. We stayed two nights and had a lovely time, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent.

We were happy with our stay. The location was great, the half-board food was good, and the staff were friendly. When a few little things came up, they sorted them out quickly and to our satisfaction.
