We’ve stayed in hostels in different parts of Germany after concerts plenty of times, but we’ve never had an experience like this. The other young people at the concert, most of whom also stay in hostels around the world, were stunned by what we told them. You learn something new every day! ;-) We were four adults and had said we’d arrive before 6:00 PM, but the room wasn’t ready. We’d booked through a portal for two people in each room, with a quoted price and 10% deposit. The owner, who seemed to be the only employee, immediately said the “hostel” was only for students so people with money couldn’t book cheap accommodation. He also said he didn’t want “busloads of old Dutch people” (his exact words!). Instead of what we’d booked, we got one double bed and a 1.5-bed sofa bed. Two of us were students, and we only needed a place after the concert, so we made do. But when settling the prepayment, the owner credited only half for the two students. His long explanation didn’t make the reason clear. We ended up paying €25 less than the booking price, but would much rather have paid that for better service, friendliness, and hospitality. To us, this didn’t feel like a hostel at all. It seemed more like an old apartment building with several, probably two-room, apartments. It might suit same-sex friends or couples staying several days with very basic facilities and cooking for themselves, if they’re fine with two missing window panes on the loggia behind the kitchen, one key for the room, and the toilet and shower in a small cubicle behind the kitchen. The owner didn’t make us feel welcome from the start. If you’re looking for a hostel, I’d avoid this guesthouse.

The guesthouse is a long way from town. The sights are about a 12-minute drive away, around 25 minutes by public transport to the city center, or 45 minutes on foot according to Google. The area didn’t feel welcoming, the building looked old and run-down, there’s a hardware store across the street, and the busy road was noisy. On arrival, we found the doors locked, apparently like many other guests. Nobody answered the mobile number provided. After a while we managed to exchange a few texts, but the provider’s replies were curt, unfriendly, and unprofessional. We had to find somewhere else to sleep that night. I can only advise people against this accommodation. For the same price, you can find something comparable or better in downtown Leipzig.
