Hotel Aviva

The Wi-Fi was the worst I've had at any hotel, with slow speeds and constant disconnections. Staff were unprofessional and showed little hospitality, and they came into our room without permission. Breakfast was poor, with very few options, and they didn't refill the food before breakfast time was over. The location is awful too, in an industrial area more than 1 km from any tram, train, or bus. I can't recommend it.

The room was clean, spacious, and had a large bathroom, but it was very hot in summer without air conditioning. The man at reception didn't seem suited to serving guests and was intrusive. He understood my questions in English but answered only in German, even though I speak only A1 German and was struggling to follow him.

The staff were nice and the bed was good, and I was glad they had gluten-free bread at breakfast. But the room smelled like a sewer despite being clean, and I got headaches both nights. The view was of a DHL truck park. Rates were high because there was a big congress, but that smell really needs attention.

Breakfast was okay, which was about the only bright spot for me. The room was small and basic, and everything looked old and as though it might fall apart. My room was on the top, fourth floor, and the corridors were extremely warm. I was glad I could open the large window fully for fresh air, but the concierge wasn't impressed by my complaints about the heat and nothing was done. The busy road nearby was noisy enough that I wore earplugs to sleep. The location was poor, with no public transport close by, about a 15-minute walk, and shared bikes weren't available in the area either. I wouldn't recommend the hotel.
