Hotel Don Giovanni

We were anxious and under a lot of stress when we checked in during summer 2022. I’m from the USA and was visiting Dusseldorf for major surgery, so we were only staying there until I left for it. The staff did so much to make that short stay feel incredible. They helped us get our lost luggage back from the airlines, arranged a romantic dinner for my husband and me so we could unwind a little, and helped in many other ways. The food was delicious too. Highly recommend :)

We ordered takeaway, so I can’t really comment on the rooms. From what I saw, the place looked cozy, and the staff were very nice. The food was super delicious.

We decided to try Don Giovanni on the spur of the moment, without a reservation. The woman at the entrance was really kind, and the other woman who showed us to our table asked us to disinfect our hands, though she wasn’t wearing her mask properly. The staff were nice, but the service was slow. The decor felt over the top and almost kitschy to my taste. We’d hoped the food would make up for it, but it was disappointing. The calzone tasted okay, but was too small. The carpaccio was swimming in oil, and the shrimp appetizer was drowned in buttery sauce with toast on the side. As someone from the Mediterranean, I found it really unfortunate to see toast served in a restaurant. The wine was good.

The rooms were clean and cozy, and the service was perfect. Breakfast at the Italian bar was excellent. I’d recommend it to anyone spending a few days in Leipzig who wants a local experience.
