Awful experience. After a four-hour drive, we arrived at the BnB on Friday night and were welcomed inside for a drink and shown our parking spot. Then they suddenly realized they didn’t have a room available. We waited 45 minutes while they tried to find a solution. In the end, we had to sleep on the floor for one night while our parents got the bed. We were tired and had already paid €100 in advance, so we were glad we could stay rather than leave. Breakfast the next morning wasn’t ready until 9, though people had been waiting since 8:15. During the COVID-19 crisis, they apparently didn’t think masks were needed, not in the kitchen while preparing food and not when speaking with guests. We didn’t feel safe at all. The second night there was also a lot of noise from a party in their garden. Checkout was even worse. We expected some compensation, but they had the nerve to say we’d made a mistake with the booking. What? Were we supposed to pay for sleeping on the floor? It was ridiculous. They’d also forgotten the €100 reservation payment and wanted us to pay it again. Absolute scammers, totally shameless. The owner said we didn’t have to stay in the first place, come on. We can understand that they made a booking mistake, but the way they handled it was very unprofessional and impolite. Luckily, we had enough proof in emails and banknotes, otherwise I guess they would have made us pay. We don’t understand how anyone can treat guests this way. The rooms were clean, but that’s about the only positive.

The Genetsch family's hospitality made the day feel special from the moment we arrived. We were welcomed warmly and offered a glass of wine of our choice before setting off. The covered wagon ride through the beautiful scenery, with tasty wine and a carefully put-together picnic, was a lovely combination. There was plenty of chatting, laughter, and good times. Thanks for the wine and the extra bit of wine knowledge :-) We'd happily recommend this outing.

We've been coming to this region for over 20 years, and always feel at home at the Genetsch Wine and Guesthouse in Lieser. The owners are kind and available when guests need them, and the rooms and holiday apartment are good. Breakfast is €10 and good, too. We enjoy sitting together on the lovely terrace with a glass of wine, especially during a tasting. The horse-drawn carriage trips through the vineyards, with food and wine and stops at scenic viewpoints, are unforgettable. There are good restaurants close by, all easy to walk to. Since it's a family-run place, things can occasionally take a little time. They're people with heart, not robots.

The Genetsch family are friendly and easy to approach whenever you need them. Their new guesthouse has several holiday apartments, and ours was 50 square meters, with a well-equipped kitchen, bathroom, guest toilet, and seating in both the kitchen and living area. For getting around, Lieser sits between Bernkastel-Kues and Piesport, each about a 30-minute bike ride away. The bus stop is a 10-minute walk and buses run hourly. Breakfast is a simple €9 option. They also offer wagon rides and wine tastings. The €7.50 Riesling is especially good and well worth trying.
