Franz and Paula were such friendly, helpful hosts, and they live in a house on the same property. The house has four bedrooms and eight beds, spread across three floors, so you can pick whether you’d rather sleep somewhere warmer or cooler. It’s well equipped and makes a great base for forest hikes, bike rides, or a day climbing the nearby summit. There are two restaurants close by. Bring cash, as card payments don’t seem to be common in the area. One thing to know is that the house is near a road popular with tourists and road trippers. It’s nothing like a busy city road or one by a highway, but it isn’t always completely quiet like being deep in the wilderness. At night, though, it’s totally silent.

The owners live next door and are kind and helpful. The setting is really rural, so you’re truly on your own there. We spent a week in June and July with four adults and three kids, and had a great time.
