We loved spending time with the kids in the big garden, watching the boats go by. The apartment came with a canoe, which we took out, and we could fish from the property too, though there are more productive spots nearby. The houses sit right by the water, such a peaceful setting. There's also a cute café close by that's known for its quark balls, and some great restaurants. You really should try Kaupen6, it's amazing! Our holiday apartment at Schlangenkönig had plenty of room and everything we needed for a wonderful Spreewald break. It would work for a long weekend or longer, with several adults and/or children. It's rustic, but that's part of the charm. We'll definitely be back.

The location is fantastic, and the staff at Spreewaldgast Holiday Rentals are friendly. We've stayed at the Spreewaldhaus six times now, and the house has its own charm. There are a couple of things that need attention. The bed could really use new mattresses, and it would be nice to have mosquito nets on at least two of the windows.
