We didn't feel at ease here, and it put a damper on what should have been happy days. I was in Lüneburg for my daughter's wedding, which was taking place in the same building. We even thought briefly about leaving a day early. The apartments themselves, Wintergarten and Altstadtgalerie, are quite nice, with a few small flaws, but the landlord's monitoring and control were what made me leave a negative review. The landlord lives next door and regularly crosses the shared backyard. The terrace has a garden table and four chairs, though plants only screen part of it. The furniture in the conservatory and upstairs is faux leather that's already peeling and worn through in places. The extra bed barely deserves to be called a bed. Otherwise, things are fine. Two days before we arrived, I mentioned on the phone that I was coming to Lüneburg for a wedding. I was immediately told visitors weren't welcome or wanted. The explanation was that guests would wear out the upscale furnishings and use the toilets. Of course our family came by. My daughter, who was staying in the same house, was allowed to sit with us downstairs on the terrace. How generous. There were five of us sitting outside after we arrived, using a chair from the conservatory. We'd called 30 minutes earlier, but still got the first check-in call to see whether we were there. They kindly offered to bring another garden chair the next day. I hadn't asked for one, so I wondered how they knew we needed it. The chair wasn't just left on the terrace. They also swept and worked on the flowerbeds. We always covered the garden table at night. One day we left the apartment for two hours and forgot a seat cushion outside without a cover. We'd barely got back when the doorbell rang and we were told off. How did she know we were out and that I might sit on the terrace again at any moment? We did have visitors, including smokers, who of course went outside the front door to smoke. Later that evening they were stopped outside and asked whether four people were staying upstairs instead of two. How could she tell my daughter from our guests? They'd never met, and the keys had been handed over without contact. When she rang the bell, she also asked how much longer the smokers would be there. Is smoking not allowed in a non-smoking apartment? Going outside shouldn't be a disturbance. That's what the stairwell is for. Some of the comments weren't completely wrong, but the way they were made and the sense of being watched were unacceptable. None of the issues called for immediate action. It left us uncomfortable.
