Hotel Ruhekrug

The old building has plenty of charm, and the peaceful location and relaxing area out back could make this a lovely guest house. The staff were friendly enough, but the way the place was run caused one problem after another. Parking was full both nights with people attending some conference or whatever, even though the hotel is quite isolated. There wasn't nearly enough space. Internet was only available in the lobby and so slow it was almost useless. Mobile reception was very bad too, so better internet would have helped. We'd booked a double room for two nights, but at check-in they asked if we had two single rooms for two nights. They sorted it out, but their big paper booking sheet left plenty of room for mistakes. At 11am the next morning, an angry woman knocked and shouted that we should be out by 11. When I said we had two nights, she realized the mistake, smiled, and walked away. That really shouldn't happen. We also left a towel on the floor as instructed if we wanted it replaced, but when we got back that evening it was still there and nobody had tended to our room. The shower was literally falling apart. Water sprayed everywhere from the shower head, the old clunky doors wouldn't close, and one part even fell off. The food was mostly okay, though far from excellent. The Caffe Latte had chocolate syrup in it, which it shouldn't. Breakfast was just okay and lacking: the raisin bread was so stale I couldn't imagine eating it, and the eggs were overcooked. It's sad to write this, because with proper management the hotel could have been amazing. It will die without it.

The restaurant had a nice, peaceful atmosphere, and the food was very good.

The place and its surroundings are top notch, and the people are nice. The food is epic, definitely try the cordon bleu. Highly recommended if you're passing through the area.

The staff are friendly and really helpful, and the food is great.
