Parkhotel Schnorr

In September 2020 I used the family-run Parkhotel as a base for a weekend trip to the Kyffhäuser and Harz Mountains. It was in a quiet spot, and the welcome felt friendly. My room was very clean and a perfectly adequate size, and I felt completely at ease there.

The location is lovely, right by the park and shops, but we won't be coming back. The hotelier was friendly and respectful at first, but on the first morning he repeatedly called our room to say breakfast was ready and that we should come down. Later, while we were napping, he unlocked the door without knocking. He seemed shocked to find us there and said, "I thought you weren't here." That was when our trust and good humor disappeared. We had booked a double room with a double bed for two nights, but got two single beds and were told to push them together. The outdated, youth-hostel-like furnishings made that impossible, leaving a wide, hard gap that made sleeping even more uncomfortable. The same style runs through the hotel. Some may like it, but I don't think it matches the price. The single rooms we also had were compact but spacious enough. Breakfast was very simple and nothing special, and seemed overpriced too. The hotelier was perhaps overly eager. I'd advise caution before booking.

We ended up sitting in the parking lot until 8 p.m. Thanks for the invitation! We had booked two rooms for eight nights, with rooms held until 6 p.m. Traffic closed the highway completely for two hours, so we arrived an hour late. I called at 2 p.m. to explain we'd be delayed by an hour. A very unpleasant, arrogant man opened the door and said he no longer had the rooms, though he could offer us two rooms for more money. I've never had such a terrible reception. I travel a lot for work, and I've never seen anything like it. I had to get this off my chest.

The room was large and very clean, with decent amenities. Breakfast was okay, and the buffet was really fresh.
