The rooms felt modern and fresh, with stylish decor and a comfortable bed. I especially loved being so close to the train station, which made getting around Mainz and catching connections easy. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere was chic without feeling stuffy. If you can, book a balcony room. The view was lovely, and it was a great place for coffee in the morning or a drink later on. I’d happily stay at the AC Hotel Mainz again.

We booked a “Member Stay for Breakfast” rate using a reward night, and breakfast was clearly included. The manager also confirmed that our DELUXE room included it. Yet this morning my husband was turned away from breakfast. A staff member and the manager raised their voices at him in front of other guests and told him to leave the restaurant. It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. We’re Platinum Elite members, but no one offered the Welcome Gift due at check-in. At AC Hotels that can be points, an amenity, or a breakfast offering. My husband is a disabled veteran, and the way he and I were treated made the stay unacceptable. We’ve stayed at Marriott properties around the world and never had an experience like this. Denying breakfast that was part of our booked rate, along with how he was spoken to, was a serious service failure and a breach of the agreement. We’re on the phone with Marriott Corporate about it. Based on this stay, we can’t recommend the property. Elite benefits and basic courtesy should be consistent across the brand.

The bar was pleasant, and the bartender was friendly and good. The front desk employee was friendly too. The room was clean and nice, but really small, even for an “upgrade.” A few drawbacks: parking is a block away, despite the website suggesting it’s on-site, and choosing the wrong floor makes it twice the listed price. The $10 credit is in dollars, not euros, and can’t be used for tips on the bill. Titanium members don’t get breakfast included, since AC Hotel chooses not to participate. An average property, not the best I’ve experienced in Europe.

We chose a familiar brand for our first night in Germany. The location was good, and the clean room worked for a one-night stay. As a big Marriott fan, though, I was very disappointed. The hotel doesn’t look like its website picture, and the area behind it felt a bit sketchy. We knew parking was off-site, but it’s under a grocery store down the street and around the block. There’s nowhere to stop in front for luggage or check-in, and the entrance is a small doorway with steps. We eventually found the garage exit and dragged our bags back to the hotel. The desk staff could use more customer service training. The night clerk noticed we were tired and frustrated and gave us vouchers for two drinks. That upset the bartender, and getting two glasses of wine was quite inconvenient for him. We tipped him, yes. Breakfast was a minimal continental one, which is normal in Germany. One guest was free, but the morning clerk charged €25 for the second.

For ten weeks, this hotel felt more like home than a hotel. The staff were kind, personable, and quick to sort out any issue. Since the team is small, I saw the same people often, which made the stay feel especially welcoming. The building itself is beautiful, with a clean, modern interior that’s well maintained. Breakfast had enough choice that I didn’t get tired of it. Access to a full gym right next door was a real plus, though it closed temporarily for renovations before my stay ended. I usually avoid hotels by major train stations, but the area around Mainz station was lovely, with plenty of restaurants. It was easy to get around Mainz, and I took many train trips from there. I’d absolutely recommend it.
