PLAZA Residence Mannheim

I had a confirmed booking a month in advance, but when I arrived at night, they turned me away. They said a technical error had happened, but their email to me said: "a large conference is taking place today, which requires us to prioritize the available capacity for this event." So I had to find another hotel, far from the site I needed to visit the next day. They didn't care. It felt like someone attending that event had higher priority than me, and they tried to fool me with the system error story. If you're traveling alone, your reservation seems to mean nothing here. A larger group comes along and you're out. Zero integrity, full of lies. Worst experience I've ever had!

The location wasn't very appealing, but the rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was really good and had plenty of variety.

The staff at reception and the bar were fantastic, welcoming and happy to answer questions. Breakfast was tasty and had everything I needed. The hotel is handy for public transport, with a few shops nearby, and it's about a 35-minute walk to the city center. My room looked modern and was clean. It was fine for one person, though a little more space would have been nice. The double bed was two singles pushed together, and I ended up on the floor between them. There was a kettle, TV, small safe, desk, and a good-sized shower with a hairdryer, but no fridge. On-site parking was useful, at EUR 10 per night, but the area felt unsecured because anyone could get in and there was no fence. Coniferous trees there also dropped sticky bits onto cars, so I needed a carwash afterward. It was a pleasant stay and I'd recommend the hotel, though a few small improvements would make it better.

Norina and Anastasia were extremely friendly. They helped me sort out a few issues, then chatted with me over a beer after a very long day. I'll definitely return to this hotel when I'm back in Mannheim. I'd highly recommend it, especially while they're working here.
