Sitting outside under the chestnut tree is a lovely way to enjoy the food here. They use meat and sausages from their own butcher shop, and the Weisswurst, leberspätzle soup, wienerschnitzel, and potato salad are all really well made. One of my favourite places for proper Bavarian cuisine. 1A

The Schweinshaxe is a real delicacy, and even someone who usually avoids fatty food will leave nothing but the bone because of the way it's cooked. It's a charming place. Glad to see the Old Boss still greeting visitors. If you're going to the restaurant on the weekend, book at least a day ahead. What else is Bavaria for!

The bill was a little high, but the meal was worth it. My pork steak came with potato wedges, which were handy for mopping up the incredible dark beer and onion sauce. It had a mild bitterness from the beer and a touch of sweetness from the onion. The other half had pork loin with cheese spätzle and creamy mushroom sauce, and it was well cooked, with the sides complementing it perfectly. We ordered two of the Weihenstephan beers. Our drinks order was taken as we sat down, then the food order before the drinks arrived. The food followed not long after. The server, a dear old Bavarian lady, welcomed us and let us choose a table in the bright, airy restaurant. It's a well-appointed hotel and restaurant right in the middle of the village.

Bayern has its own feel, and places like this are what it's all about, not Munich. It's only a 20-minute drive from the city center, close to the airport, but not noisy. The rooms are very clean, and there's a Biegarten and great food. By far the best place to stay in Munich if you want that Bayern feeling. Stay at this Hotel!
