Sporthotel Schönblick

The location worked well, near enough to downtown Meersburg to be convenient and far enough away to stay quiet. The bed was very comfortable, everything was clean, and all the staff were friendly. Still, we didn't enjoy our stay. I chose this hotel because the website advertised AC/Klimanlage, which seemed hard to find nearby, but it didn't work on our first night. When we came back from dinner around 8pm, the room was sweltering and opening the windows barely helped. There was no staff at the hotel then. The website number, the number posted outside, and the emergency maintenance phone at reception were all disconnected, so there was no way to reach anyone at night about a maintenance problem. With the windows open, flies and beetles came in by the dozen. Thankfully there were no mosquitoes, but we found bugs on the walls, floor, and even in the bed for the rest of the stay. Sheep next door woke us early in the morning, since there was no sound barrier. From 9 am to 12pm that morning, staff unlocked and opened our door four separate times without knocking. The first time we were asleep and the door was shut again right away. An hour later I heard a key and called out, “we're in here!” The same happened a third time. On the fourth, I was naked and changing and yelled at whoever was outside to stop. We were two 22 year old women, and this was a serious privacy and safety concern. I was shocked that staff didn't knock once in all four attempts. The owner helped get the AC working the next day. But on the second night we found it switched itself off at 10pm, as another guest had mentioned in the reviews. We couldn't control the room temperature, and I woke up sweating in the middle of the night. At 250 Euro per night, that wasn't acceptable to me. I expected better service and amenities that worked properly for that price.

We rented bikes here and had a great experience. The host was really kind and helpful, and spoke English. The bikes were in very good condition, the rental times were flexible, and the price was fair. Highly recommended.

I booked and paid through hotels.com, so I should only have owed parking and taxes at checkout. Instead, the hotel charged me again for the whole stay at a higher rate and has refused to return the money. They haven't answered my emails, and when I've called, they've hung up on me.

The rooms and facilities were clean, and the host family was nice. Breakfast on the patio in the morning sun was glorious, especially with coffee refills. Free WiFi!
