The apartment was lovingly furnished, and everything went smoothly before we arrived. Once there, though, we waited a long time for our visitor cards and had trouble reaching anyone. The bread roll service was excellent, with the right bags labeled with the apartment’s name. Apartment 2 is quite small and has only a limited view of the lagoon, but we still felt comfortable.

Apartment 2 felt dark and damp, and it was only superficially clean. The grounds were neglected, too. I contacted the owner twice and got an arrogant reply. The website calls it a 5-star apartment, which is what I paid for and expected.

The house itself was quiet, well-equipped and had a sauna. We booked a Zeesboothaus for three nights on Rügen in November, arriving around 6 pm. We’d forgotten our bed linens, but they were brought over, so that was no problem. Then the caretaker knocked while my wife was half-naked. When we opened the door, a woman was standing behind him, and he lectured us about how we were supposed to behave. In my 30 years in the restaurant and rental business, I’ve never encountered someone so unfriendly. It was a nightmare for my wife and the children. I might understand his irritation in mid-season, but there were no other guests around in November, so I couldn’t understand that behavior. We listened patiently, and when leaving, called him 15 minutes ahead and handed over the keys as agreed, just to get a few peaceful days. But the ordeal continued. The next morning, around 10 or 11, he was standing in the middle of our apartment with a yellow bag, explaining again how and where the trash had to be sorted and disposed of. We agreed without arguing, and he finally left. We enjoyed the rest of our holiday. When we called before departure as agreed, he immediately started giving orders on the phone, asking whether the dishwasher was empty and the place had been tidied. I said we’d cleared up thoroughly and run the dishes through the dishwasher, but there was still something in it. I’d paid €80 for final cleaning and wasn’t going to do anything more. He insulted and threatened us, saying we couldn’t come back. That was fine with us, we had no intention of returning. He could call his boss and complain. That was our three-day break on the beautiful island of Rügen.

The renovation was lovely. You walk in and feel at home right away.
