Alpenhotel Rieger

The bed was too soft for me, and the standard German pillows didn’t have much shape or support. Aside from that, we had a lovely stay. Our spacious room had a balcony with mountain views, and we could even see stars at night. The bathroom was large, with a shower that had great pressure and temperature. The modern pool and sauna were amazing, breakfast had loads of tasty choices, and the staff were kind and helpful. Mittenwald’s heart is right outside, with restaurants nearby, the train station within walking distance, and a huge supermarket next door. I’d recommend the hotel to couples and families with kids.

Michael at the front desk gave excellent service, and the breakfast was good quality and free. The price was excellent, and the rooms, pool, and sauna were clean. There’s no exercise room at the moment, though. I found the mattresses somewhat hard, and while the room temperature felt comfortable, I couldn’t seem to raise it above 20 degrees C. There were barely enough towels for one person. I could probably have asked for more, but managed with what I got. The raised carpet sections edged with metal brackets were a major trip hazard. I hit them twice during my stay. Has anyone heard of thresholds?

We spent seven nights at Hotel Rieger and loved the warm, positive atmosphere every day. Our Mountain View room had been recently renovated, with fresh, clean decor, and it was very comfortable. Parking was easy too, we always found a spot without stress. On our first visit to Mittenwald, after a long hike, we arrived late at night hungry and exhausted. The hotel staff welcomed us in and served us pizza, even though they were probably about to close or may already have closed. That kindness made us decide to stay there on our next trip, and we’re glad we did. The hospitality was amazing from the start. They also serve Karwendelbräu beer, brewed at Germany’s highest brewery, 2,244 meters up in the Karwendel mountains. I don’t usually like beer, but this was insanely good, and worth trying if you’re in the area.

The breakfast was good, and the location suited us, with kind people at the hotel. But the service didn’t match what we paid: they didn’t clean or make up the room, and there was only one shower towel, which was very small. The kitchen was closed on both Saturday and Sunday. I understand Sunday, but having it closed on Saturday too over the weekend isn’t normal.
