Gästehaus Döring

I came here twice, once in fall and again at Christmas, and both stays were splendid. The host was always smiling, friendly, and funny, and booking was easy both times, even over the phone. Breakfast was delicious in the lovely Bavarian-style dining rooms. I had a north-facing room with a mountain view and a south-facing one overlooking the garden, and both were lovely. The house is full of thoughtful details, from patterned Bavarian curtains to comfy pillows and wooden beds. There’s plenty to do nearby. The Karwendel Mountain Cabin ride is a 12-minute walk away and goes up to 2244m or 7362 feet. Lake Lautersee takes about a 30-minute walk. The Riedboden valley along the Isar River, with one of the oldest meadows left from the ice age, starts about 15 minutes away on foot. I recommend renting a bike and riding through this protected natural area towards Scharnitz, a border city in Austria. There are bike paths in the area. Mittenwald train station and downtown are around a 17-minute walk, REWE Shop is about 15 minutes away for snacks, and beautiful Leutasch Gorge is also a 15-minute walk. The neighborhood is lovely, with gardens and flowers everywhere.
