Hotel Garni Gästehaus Edlhuber

Mittenwald was lovely, with shops, restaurants, historic buildings, and beautiful scenery, but without a touristy feel. We only spent one night at this gorgeous gästehaus under the mountain, beside a glacier-fed creek, and wished we'd stayed longer. The owner was absolutely lovely and gave us the well-appointed junior suite. Breakfast in the scenic wood-carved dining room was amazing. The beds were very comfortable, and waking to the birds and creek was perfect. No complaints at all.

This was our second stay, and the room was fantastic with an amazing view. Breakfast was very good, and the owners are extremely friendly. Their cool dog was a bonus, and we were lucky enough to spot their old cat too!

We’ve stayed twice, and both visits were outstanding. Angelika was an energetic, friendly host, and the large rooms were impeccably clean with lovely alpine German decor. Each has a small balcony overlooking the surrounding mountains. It’s a short walk into town, while the guesthouse itself is quiet and away from the busy tourist area. The Leutascher Gorge trailhead is across the street. Don't miss breakfast. It was incredible, with fruit, bread, cakes, muffins, cereal, juice, milk, boiled eggs, tea, coffee, yogurt, and a plate of assorted meat and cheese. One of the best guesthouses in Germany.

Breakfast was a lovely slow ritual each morning, with delicious food served personally by our host and good conversation with the other guests if you wanted it. We could also walk to the main shopping area and, more usefully for us, to several trailheads in ten minutes or less. We reached Gästehaus Edlhuber easily on foot from the train station, and our host was friendly and flexible throughout. The room was gorgeous, with a mountain view, lots of space, a huge comfortable bed, beautiful wood furniture and fixtures, and a very nice recently remodeled bathroom. We absolutely loved our stay and would happily return in any season.
