My experience at the Jugendherberge in Mittenwald was a huge disappointment. We got no immediate confirmation about whether a room was available, and the answer came only when we had two hours left before check-in. It put all my friends and me in a difficult position, disrupted our plans, and took almost the rest of the day to find somewhere to stay. I’d already stayed at a Jugendherberge in Vienna and knew how good the service could be, so I wouldn’t make the Mittenwald branch my first choice for an itinerary. I’m very disappointed with how the managing team at DJH Jugendherberge, Mittenwald handled this.

Four of us arrived in Mittenwald, and only two hours before check-in I got an email saying there were no rooms. The previous week, I’d requested a booking when the Hostel had availability and received an instant confirmation of my request. Absolutely pathetic and unwelcoming. My short vacation plans are ruined, and I’m writing this as I travel back to a town far away. The owner’s irresponsible action spoiled the trip. Rude!!!!! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Worst hostel booking I’ve ever made!

It’s a beautiful spot among lush green fields and icy mountain peaks, with excellent service and hospitality. Just keep in mind that it’s a bit far from Mittenwald city center and the railway station, so you need a vehicle to get there.

The youth hostel itself is about average, but the landscape around it is incredible. Probably the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen.
