Hotel & Gasthof Grüner Baum

We liked our stay overall, but the hostess made us feel so unwelcome that we probably won’t come back. The other two men who run the hotel were friendly, thankfully. The woman was incredibly unfriendly every time we spoke with her. When my husband asked for another coffee at breakfast, she responded with an annoyed “a second coffee?” Asking about checkout time got the same reaction: “well when do you wanna leave then?” We said, “when it’s the most convenient for you,” but she again asked, annoyed, “when do you wanna leave?” When we said maybe midday, she said, “what do you mean mid day? You mean 11h?” We agreed and made sure to leave well before then. She made us feel like an inconvenience. The room smelled musty when we arrived, so we opened the windows and left the closet door open. Breakfast was in another building, which meant going outside in the snow. There wasn’t a flyer in the room with breakfast or checkout times or the Wi-Fi password, and nobody told us at check-in either, so we had to go back to reception to ask. There were some good points: the price was good for the location, and when we booked, we were told our 5-year-old son would stay free. The bed was large and the mattresses didn’t drift apart during the night. Breakfast included fresh fruit, soft eggs, Camembert, bread, Nutella, lemon water, honey, and different breads, plus latte macchiato. There’s free public parking in front of the hotel, several restaurants within walking distance, and a restaurant at the hotel. It’s 15 minutes from the bad steben therms.
