The room was very spacious and comfortable, and it was wonderfully quiet overall. I liked having a balcony for the views when the weather was good. There was plenty of parking on site, though most spaces seemed permanently occupied, so ask reception about access to the other spaces. The pool is free to use, and there are a surprising number of facilities, including hairdressers, a bank, a shop with essentials, fresh bread and fruit each day, and a cafe and restaurant shared with the older residents. It's about a 15-minute walk into town, with a very good, inexpensive Italian restaurant and a Norma supermarket 300m away, which is handy if you're making your own breakfast. The hotel is an unusual setup on the same site as an old people's home and shares some facilities with it. The quality is good, but it feels expensive for what you get: breakfast is €10 per person on top of €120 a night, and the kitchenette is there, but hiring pots and pans costs €20, which is outrageous. There's no dining table either, so eating something you've cooked would be awkward. The Wi-Fi was hard to use and kept dropping out.

We visited and were struck by the breadth of what's offered here. The rooms are beautiful, and some of the higher-floor ones have wonderful views of the city and surrounding area. Residents can take part in cultural activities, courses, exhibitions and concerts, with lots of information available on health and well-being. There are large parks, an indoor pool and a sauna, and the location is convenient, close to the city center and within walking distance of the nearest supermarket. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's assisted living at a very high level, and naturally it comes at a price. Those who can afford it can spend their retirement in a supportive, well-cared-for environment.
