Schloss Engers

Breakfast was very nice, with good quality food, and the location looks great with a nice view. The room was ok, but quite standard and nothing special worth mentioning. There are no shades to make it completely dark.

The location is really good, and the castle looks lovely from the outside. At breakfast there were many choices and the food was good. The people were kind, but only in the restaurant areas. In the castle rooms, we found black hairs around the room and bathroom. After the first day, the room hadn't been cleaned. A blanket that had fallen on the floor was still there, and a piece of paper remained on the table. Our room, 301, was beside the elevator, so we heard it moving at all hours. The furniture was poor and mostly from Ikea, not suitable for a castle, and the carpet had an undefined black dirty spot. When we arrived at 22:30, the bar was closed and there was only one small bottle of sparkling water for two people, so we were thirsty all night. They didn't replace it the next day either. There was a fridge, but it was empty and broken. In my opinion, it isn't acceptable not to have at least a 50 cl bottle per guest, or even to have an empty minibar in a hotel like this. When we reported our problems at the front desk, there was no reaction, apology, or explanation. They just gave us the bill and said the castle isn't 4 stars, only the guest house is four stars. I'd suggest seeing the castle from outside and choosing another, cheaper hotel that will at least have the minimum essential services.

The breakfast in the Schloss was very good, and the staff were friendly. Parking and charging are free, though there was only one Tesla charger and one electric charger, so not enough. The Residenz has a nice sauna, but the steam bath and cold water bath could use a clean and refresh. The Residenz rooms are across from the Schloss, not in the grand building itself, and this isn't mentioned anywhere. The setting is a great looking Schloss with only the waterfront around it. There was a room available for a small kid. The double bed was two singles, and too soft for me, though some may like it. With my old back problem, I had trouble getting up. Ask for a room with a bathtub or you won't get one. Was one night worth €172? Not sure, though maybe we'll come again with the bikes.

I had a really pleasant stay last November. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff were courteous. It's a great place to stay in a laid-back town. I'd recommend anyone visiting Engers or the Neuwied area stay at Shloss Engers.
