Getting into the building late in the afternoon was awkward: reception was empty and the doors were locked, so we had to use a code. The staff we did meet were wonderful, and the water pressure was good, but that’s about all I can praise. The penthouse is run down, with outdated furniture and a bed tucked into an awkward spot that makes you crawl out or work around badly placed walls. The blinds, dishwasher and hairdryer didn’t work, and the door code stopped working while we were there. The website photos look great, but they’re misleading. It feels more like an upmarket hostel pretending to be a hotel. I wouldn’t come back.

We only stayed one night, and the room was clean, spacious and nicely designed. I just wished there’d been a small fridge in it.

The rooms have no locks, so we didn’t feel safe staying the night with our kids. We were two families with small children and suitcases, and couldn’t even find the parking, so we left the cars on the street. The hotel is in a residential block, with other flats to pass through on the way in. There was no one at reception, and the lifts weren’t working, so we carried the children and luggage up two flights of stairs. Our room was boiling in the 32C weather, with no ventilation, AC or even a fan, and there were spiders and webs inside. We’d requested two rooms with an extra bed, but only got one extra bed in one room. We called and emailed, but they still charged us full price. Would not recommend.

The location worked really well for getting around, with public transport, cafes and restaurants nearby, and the city centre a short walk away. I was there on a business trip to Nuremberg and was very happy with the stay. The room was basic, but clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’d highly recommend ArtHotel and will stay again on future trips to Nuremberg.
