The walls seemed like cardboard, since I could hear every word my neighbour said. The reception was only staffed from 5pm, and the phone service was unfriendly and couldn't help with anything. This Ibis had more of a youth hostel feel, and I wouldn't come back.

The noise from the MAN truck plant kept me awake all night. Forklifts, extraction fans and other industrial sounds carried into my room, where the window was already open when I arrived late during a heatwave. The air conditioning didn't seem to work, so there was no relief from the heat either. I got no sleep, and since I was on a business trip, I couldn't function the next day. When I mentioned the air conditioning in the morning, I was told it does work, but only if you turn the dial to hot. That's baffling, and should be explained at check-in or shown in the room. I wouldn't recommend staying here in hot weather, especially if you need rest before work.

His wife was abroad and worried because my relative, who was staying at the hotel, wasn't answering his phone. I gave the receptionist his full name and asked her just to check that he was okay. I made clear I wasn't asking for any information about him. Instead, she was very rude and said she couldn't go looking for some random Indian guy in the hotel. The whole conversation was in German. I understand if she couldn't help, but she could have told me politely. That response was unnecessary.

The staff were friendly and helpful, always ready with an answer or directions, and the self-service breakfast had a nice range of fresh things. My compact room had everything I needed, was clean, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The soundproofing also made for a peaceful night despite the central location. It's a short walk from the main train station and close to many popular attractions, which made getting around Nuremberg easy. For a budget hotel, the ibis budget Nuremberg exceeded my expectations and was good value. A simple, convenient choice if you want clean and comfortable accommodation.
