Gasthaus zur Ölmühle

We came away from our visit to Tripsdrill with a lovely memory of Peter and Heidi. They’ve been running the inn for more than 50 years, and at around 80 they’re still working away at it. We hope one of their children takes it on someday, and that they stay healthy. We’d be happy to return, after calling first, of course. We’d been to Tripsdrill Wildlife Park on July 17, 2025, with four adults and two children. On our way back toward the Palatinate region, my wife called Zur Ölmühle to ask whether they were open and could feed all six of us. The innkeeper said they’d find a way, so we headed over. The old inn sits out in the countryside, surrounded by meadow and open space, with a small playground. When we arrived, nobody else was there. Peter and Heidi, the elderly couple who run it, were waiting for us on the terrace and greeted us warmly. They usually serve hotel guests, they explained, but were glad to make an exception after our friendly call. The food was delicious: roast beef with onions, schnitzel for the kids, plus salads, fries, fried potatoes, and gravy. Peter and Heidi gave us first-class service, then sat and chatted with us. We stayed long after eating, with a few goosebump moments. It was such a relaxing end to the day. They’re truly lovely people, real restaurateurs through and through, and their regulars clearly enjoy coming back.

I’ll definitely return. It’s a quiet, lovely spot to unwind, and the owners are incredibly welcoming. The rooms are basic, but clean and cozy, with great value for the price. Small, but everything feels just right.

The owners are elderly, attentive, and clearly do their best. The place has a rustic look that won’t suit everyone, but anyone wanting peace and quiet will find plenty of it here.
