Atomis Hotel Munich Airport by Mercure

The airport shuttle was friendly and on time for our departure, though the pickup from the airport had been very late. The hotel is conveniently close, and check-in and checkout were quick and easy. Staff at reception handled the person ahead of us calmly and professionally. The small bar was pleasant too, and the staff member there clearly wanted us to be happy. Our last-minute room was only adequate and looked a little worn, which is why I'd give it three stars. The rest of the property seemed nicer and well kept. We left too early to try breakfast, though it looked fine.

We'd stay here again before an early flight or after a late arrival. It's close to MUC, and the room rate was great. Parking at 10 Euros seemed fair, and breakfast was good. The rooms were acceptably clean and comfortable, though some of the equipment is dated and the hotel itself is a bit older. We did have a problem with the AC/heating. It wouldn't work and the receptionist had to restart it, so we were cold in the room late in the evening. It warmed up fairly soon, at least.

The airport transfer worked flawlessly, and the rooms were quiet, with comfortable mattresses and lights that all worked. The window shades really darken the room and feel much sturdier than the flimsy ones I've seen elsewhere. Even the door feels solid when it closes, with nothing rattling. That gives the place a lovely homely feeling of German quality. It's not a fancy hotel, and that's part of why I liked it. I've recently stayed in plenty of visually impressive places where the shower flips between freezing and boiling, bulbs are missing, or doors and curtains won't close. I'd take this attention to the basics over chandeliers and five-star bling with crumbling infrastructure any day.

The bed was the best part, the most comfortable one I've ever slept in. My stay was really pleasant: the room was clean and cosy, the staff were friendly, and the location near the airport was convenient. Having a shuttle was a big help too.
