Haus Katzensteig

We kept coming back for the Käsespätzle, which are absolutely delicious, and enjoyed everything else we tried as well. They also have a good selection of Prinz spirits, and the prices are reasonable. Katzensteig is a charming family-run restaurant, with vacation apartments in the building. The house has been in the family for generations and was later expanded for tourism. We ate there regularly on our 2018 vacation, then drove over an hour to return for a meal in 2019. Food is prepared fresh, so it takes a bit longer than at other restaurants. The owner is direct and cheerful in a typically Bavarian way, which may not suit everyone. We’d still recommend it again and again, and would definitely book a table.

The chef and owner were so attentive and friendly, and the meal was delicious. Everything is made fresh, so don't expect food in 10 minutes, but it was well worth waiting for. The restaurant is wonderfully charming, and the “bed” where we sat was adorable. When a very rude couple wouldn't let us join their large table for five, the owner cleared a space for us and opened another room, so we had it to ourselves. It’s a very quiet spot on a side street, with a super cozy interior and a few tables outside. We’ve come several times over the years and tried almost everything on the menu. It isn’t huge, but there’s a good selection, and we’ve never been disappointed. We’re already looking forward to going back!

We visited the restaurant only, not the guesthouse. It’s a relaxed, family-run place with humorous hosts and a lot of heart. The food was delicious and generously portioned, and there’s a good wine selection. We especially liked the tarte flambée.
