The location was great, but the rooms were poorly maintained and not very clean. There were several small insects in our private bathroom, and the shared bathrooms smelled very bad. Noise from the breakfast room cut our sleep short, and the service was rude at times. Sadly, it wasn't good value for money.

The staff were friendly, breakfast was great, and the rooms were pretty clean. There's enough parking around the hostel, and both Oberstdorf and Freibergsee are a short drive away. The Wi-Fi was a real downside, since mobile reception was very weak there too. Still, I'd recommend this above-average place.

The hostel is well placed for hiking, with beautiful mountain scenery and the Breitachklamm gorge nearby. For the price, it's great value. There isn't internet in the rooms, though, and the hikers make so much noise that you'll be woken early.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The rooms have fewer conveniences than some other DJH hostels: the bunk beds don't have wall-mounted reading lamps, and although the showers are clean, there's nowhere to keep small things dry.

A lovely setting among small mountains, with friendly staff and good breakfast and dinner. Public transport gets you to Oberstdorf in about 10 minutes. Wi-Fi was included, but barely worked in our room, so we kept going downstairs just to look things up.
