The whole house smelled strongly of dog, and the rooms were dirty. There was a large patch of mold in the shower, and the duvet was stained. The photos didn't match what we found. The hostess was very nice on the phone, though.

The location made it easy to get where we wanted to go. The bakery was only a 3-5 minute walk for morning pastries, there were at least 5-6 restaurants nearby, and the ski slopes were more than 10 minutes away even with all our gear. We had both snowboarders and skiers in our group, and it worked well for pretty much everything we needed. The house was pleasantly quiet during our week, and we enjoyed the apartment. The rooms were great, and the hostess was very friendly, open, and grateful for constructive suggestions. Excellent value for money.

The location is excellent: 100 meters to the town center, 100 meters to the border crossing, and a 15-minute walk to Fichtelberg mountain. The terrace is shared by all the apartments, though, not private. Evenings in the garden for sitting and chatting weren't welcome because they kept the landlady awake. There was only one working TV, and reception was very poor unless you wanted shopping channels. MDR, RTL, Sat.1, and ProSieben either didn't work or came through with choppy, extreme interference. The landlady was very child-friendly, added thoughtful little touches, and always seemed helpful. But she also always had convenient excuses for missing or broken things. Bath plugs were only provided when requested. The leather sofa bed was completely worn out, with scraps of leather all over the bed. That was apparently the previous tenant's fault, and a replacement couldn't be arranged so quickly. The TV remote was missing too, and the previous tenant had supposedly taken that as well. It's okay, but there are drawbacks.

The hospitality, accommodation, surroundings, and even the weather were fantastic. We spent a few days there with the kids during the October school holidays and were thrilled then and still are. We're still talking about it and would love to return.
