The walks were a real pleasure, and the area is stunning. Our quarters were clean, quiet, and comfortable. The hosts were kind, professional, and quick to respond. Highly recommend!

The house is in a beautiful, peaceful part of the Odenwald forest, with nature all around and plenty of hiking trails nearby. It's spacious and has a sauna, wood-burning stove, ping-pong table, and foosball table, so it seems like it could be a relaxing place. Sadly, it needs a lot of renovation and updating. The ground-floor refrigerator was broken, the beds and bedding were old and very uncomfortable, and the whole house smelled musty. The furnishings felt mismatched and unwelcoming. Hot water seemed limited, presumably because of solar thermal heating, and became an issue quickly when several people were staying. There were other problems too. The old spiral staircase creaked and wobbled, Wi-Fi was very weak, and many pipes and wires were exposed. Most of the ping-pong paddles were broken, and there was no lighting in that room. The basement toilet wouldn't lock. One ground-floor room had an old carpet, lots of cobwebs, and an unpleasant moldy smell. The house has potential, but during our stay it wasn't comfortable. People who are fine with a very basic standard and mainly want the location might manage; I'd advise others against staying here for now. After I posted this review, the hosts withheld the security deposit, apparently because they disagreed with what I'd written. Addendum to Haus Carmenas's response dated November 8, 2025: I'm sorry you feel that way about my review. I described my impressions honestly and objectively, based on the condition of the house during my visit. It reflects only my own experience of the accommodation and is meant to give other guests a realistic picture. I don't want to address the later claims further, except to confirm that the security deposit was initially withheld. Our group's additional expenses were deducted from it, so the matter was resolved. Even so, you used my original review as leverage to withhold the deposit, which I don't think was fair or legal. As an individual, I have the right to freedom of expression, and my review included both positive and critical points. If you disagree with my honest personal opinion, that's not my responsibility. I wish you all the best and hope future guests have a more pleasant stay.

We stayed as a family from June 19th to 22nd, and there was plenty of room in the spacious house. Cleanliness, though, left a lot to be desired. We told the owner, who showed us the dirty cupboards and two shower drains. We'd already cleaned the cutlery drawers and living room on arrival day, and told her about that as well. A partial refund of the cleaning fee would have been a nice gesture.

It's very quiet here, with neighbors around. The house is huge and runs across three floors, so at first it feels like a labyrinth. You can tell it's old in many places and being renovated bit by bit. There's a cleaning fee, yet there were crumbs on the table, and the coffee pot didn't look like it had been used properly in a long time.
