Gasthaus "Zur Mühle"

We nearly went to Edeka for food on the go. It was a winter Monday in North Frisia, and the hotel restaurants we’d seen had hardly anything under €25. One even wanted more for a bowl of soup than a full meal elsewhere. Then we spotted this place was open and checked the menu. We were so impressed that we went in. It’s a simple place, and the owner, who served us, isn’t very chatty. But he knows what he’s doing. The food was wonderful, proper home cooking, like my mother made. The quality was amazing and the prices were unbelievable. Thanks for making our Monday evening such a happy surprise. Please keep going for a long time.

We only ate at the inn, so I can’t comment on the rooms, but the meal was fantastic. Our email reservation from the evening before was confirmed right away. The manageress greeted us warmly, and the manager looked after us politely throughout. He’s not very talkative, a bit old school, but we found him pleasant and correct. In a small North Frisian village, we actually appreciated not being addressed in the modern, overly familiar way. The place is old but spotlessly clean and lovingly decorated. We shared one Deichbrot appetizer, and they brought us two little plates with half each without us asking. Our Finkenwerder Kutterscholle and Friesenspezi were tasty, generous portions, and great value. The other two couples there were also treated kindly, their questions answered and special requests accommodated. We’ll eat here again next holiday, and would recommend spending an evening here.

The owner’s a character, but he’s part of the charm. Once you get talking, he turns out to be quite friendly and chatty. The restaurant has a one of a kind 1960s feel that makes it special. The food was delicious and very good value. We had a lovely evening and would highly recommend it.

We’ve eaten here several times, and the kitchen has been outstanding every time. Whether fish or meat, the food was always fresh and cooked just right. My favorites were the fish platter for two and the pink-roasted lamb. The value for money is excellent too. We only know the restaurant, not the hotel. A gentleman handled the whole service on his own and was extremely kind and polite. The one downside for us was that our dog wasn’t allowed inside, so we had to wait until we could leave him alone in our holiday home before enjoying a meal. We wish the hosts continued success.
