Hotel Hirschen Glottertal

The rooms are large, but the furniture feels dated, and the place seems to be cutting corners compared with how it used to be. The new breakfast room is very nicely done. Breakfast itself was disappointing: the selection was limited and there wasn't enough for everyone, so I had to watch for staff bringing out more food to get what I wanted. There were no eggs made to order, which is usually an option at four-star hotels. Dinner was included in the package and tasted nice, but it didn't make the price feel worthwhile. I would have appreciated friendlier service. For me, it was overpriced and overrated, and I'll stay somewhere else next time I'm in the area.

The staff were patient with the children running around and nearly sending dishes flying, and they were polite and accommodating about my limited German. I was there for a birthday party, held in a room with a large print of the Germany landscape, lit from behind and set against wooden beams. The venue felt both luxurious and homely as soon as we arrived from the car park. The host chose the menu; some dishes wouldn't have been my pick, but everything was cooked and presented very well. The monkfish was my favorite. Great food, service, and setting.

I've been here four times, including with children, and that's worked out fine each time. The welcome is always friendly, and the restaurant serves excellent food, with the kind of gastronomic quality I was looking for. Prices are fair, including the alcohol. The new sauna is great, and thanks for the swimming pool with its lovely 29° water!
