Saigerhütte

We sat on the terrace as the sun went down, surrounded by the courtyard’s stunning old buildings. The place has a perfect, traditional German feel, and the menu offers a great range of regional food, including Bohemian dishes. We tried the Czech wine too, and it was impressive. The food was tasty, high quality, and served in generous portions. A really fast, charming waitress rounded off a great experience. We’ll definitely come back.

The food was okay, but a stressful payment problem ruined the visit for us. When we were ready to pay and continue our trip, none of our cards worked in the terminal. We’d never had that happen before, and there was no reason we knew of for it to be an issue on our side. The waitress was unhelpful and made a lot of drama out of it. Instead of suggesting that one of us ride into town on our bikes to withdraw cash, she had us try the cards several times. She took the receipts away without showing us why the payments had failed, and her sour looks made us feel like thieves who didn’t want to pay for lunch and get on with our trip. I did manage to withdraw the money in town and came back. She took it without saying anything and didn’t give us our change. That kind of treatment doesn’t deserve a tip. It would have been much better to get a friendly, positive response to an inconvenience instead of all the drama. It was a really stressful, negative experience.

I’ve stayed here several times and have had a great experience each time. It’s the best hotel in the area, with very clean, comfortable rooms, fresh and delicious restaurant food, and very friendly staff.

The River Flöh runs through the very beautiful town of Olbernhau, and hotel Saigerhütte is an outstanding place for tourists to stay. If you live in Saxony, I recommend visiting the town. It’s hard to think of a better place to stay than hotel Saigerhütte.
