Hotel Alexander

My biggest problem was the internet. They said it was available only in the lobby, but during the week I stayed it worked at all for only about two hours. Parking is also very limited: seven spaces in the underground garage and about ten squeezed into corners around the property. To their credit, the website is upfront about that. The price was okay, but the lack of working internet is a major drawback. The hotel is a bit out of town, with one good restaurant and a couple of snack bars nearby. It’s a ten-minute bus ride into the city center, though figuring out which bus to take back is another matter. There’s no restaurant at the hotel. Breakfast was average by German standards, and early risers got yesterday’s rather leathery rolls because fresh ones arrived halfway through breakfast. My room felt spacious and was comfortable, with a pleasant, unadventurous design. The desk, bedside power, lights, and wardrobe were all conveniently placed, and the wall art added to the modern boutique feel. The bed wasn’t especially comfortable. The bathroom was cramped and needed redecorating, although the shower was strong and very enjoyable. There was no bathtub. The towels were tiny, frayed, and seemed to have been washed a thousand times. Reception staff were remote for the first couple of days, then became friendlier and very helpful. They don’t have an official laundry service, but provide a washing and drying room for guests. When they realized I was working too hard to have time for that, they cheerfully did my laundry for free. The staff grew friendlier as we got to know each other. The lobby, bedrooms, and some other areas need serious maintenance. The car park, lift, and atrium are shabby, and the corridor lights switch off too quickly, leaving you trying to find the keyhole in the dark.

There’s no WiFi in the rooms and no air conditioning. Most room windows face the main street, where the noise is terrible. I strongly DO NOT recommend this Hotel.

I traveled here from the USA with my wife, expecting good service because the hotel is close to the city and so many people had praised it in their reviews. The staff and service turned out to be completely unfriendly, unhelpful, and disrespectful toward guests. They don’t make the rooms, and when I asked for fresh bed linen, she refused and told me I’d have to sleep in the same sheets one more day. You don’t even get a good morning. I’m happy to finally be going back from this country to my beloved USA, where at least someone at the hotel will wish me good morning. This place fills me with hatred because of how disrespectfully I was treated. It’s absolutely not even worth one star.
