We stopped for lunch at the hotel while hiking the Needle Gin trail from Oppenau. The meal and service were both excellent, and I’d happily eat there again. The trail itself, though, wasn’t much to praise.

The beef they serve was gorgeous, and the food overall was good, though the wine and beer sauce on the fries and pork felt a bit overdone. We found it quite hard to understand the German ladies who served us, so their English could use some work. They should also bring the drinks menu, as the Indian server did. Sorry I didn’t ask your name so I could mention you. The setting is peaceful and quiet, a lovely spot for walks in the woods and fresh air.

The forests and meadows around Hotel Kalikutt are wonderful, and you can hear birds and the creek nearby. We stayed in the junior suite, which I’d highly recommend. The restaurant feels cozy right away, dogs are welcome, and the food was so good we left very full. We came with our dog and received exceptionally warm service. We had a great stay and will be back, next time on the motorcycle.

We only had one night at Höhenhotel & Restaurant Kalikutt during our European tour in August 2024, and I still wish we’d stayed a couple more days. My fiancé and I are Americans, and we found the staff friendly, generous, and fantastic. The rooms were spacious and clean, with the finishes kept in very good condition. I’d definitely recommend staying here if it fits into your journey.

The balcony had a beautiful view, and there’s a little river pool beside the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay, especially the kind staff. Even the road up to the hotel was breathtaking. We’d definitely recommend it.
