Hotel Casa Atlantis

Baabe itself is a great choice if you’re after somewhere quieter and more peaceful than some of the other coastal towns. The beach is about a ten-minute walk away, with lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. We stayed in a bungalow set a little back from the main area, so it was quiet and private. It had underfloor heating, a rain shower, a large fridge, and a small kitchenette with two hotplates and the essentials. The secluded terrace, shaded by plants, was lovely for relaxing. Since we booked in May, bicycles were included too. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant wasn’t huge, given the small number of rooms, but there was plenty of choice in food and drinks.

We didn’t feel welcome at all, more like we were a nuisance, and we left after the first night even though we’d booked two. The owner told us, “Then pack your things and get out of here.” When we called to pay at 10 a.m. as requested, he said he’d be back in 15 minutes. Thanks for nothing. The whole thing unfolded during a birthday breakfast in front of the children. The owner was unfriendly to them and told them not to “play” with the taps. The finca was cold because the heating wasn’t on, then it became extremely hot overnight. The patio door had come off its hinges. When we called in the morning, the owner said, “If it’s unhinged now, we’ve got a real problem.” The cups needed washing, and some of the cutlery was falling apart.

In the evening, the restaurant serves really good tapas. It’s a small hotel with a great breakfast, and guests can use bicycles from the bike rental on site for free.

Casa Atlantis is very basic accommodation. The place is deserted in the evenings and seems suitable only for older people.
