Haus Südstrand

Getting around was easy, since everything is within walking distance, and the apartments are centrally located and roomy enough, at least ours was. The parking is a disaster, especially the underground garage. It gets incredibly tight in a station wagon, particularly when other guests leave bike racks on their trailer hitches even though there’s storage in the building where they could put them.

We had apartment 2 from June 11th to July 2nd. It was clean, sensibly laid out, and had plenty of storage, which was handy. The balcony was small despite there being more room available, faced straight onto the parking lot, and had no shade from midday until evening sun. In summer it was unbearable at times, and I had to go back inside because of the heat. We also missed a breakfast tray for the balcony, a bread basket, and flower vases. We’d just got married and had no vase for our bouquets. I had a few clothespins with me and bought some more. The basement washing machine sounded useful, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It was filthy, the program didn’t work, and after we put in more money just to open the door, I took my laundry out wet and unrinsed.

I can only comment on one apartment in the Südstrand building, not the whole place. It was spacious and modern, with its own balcony and a parking space. The apartment was tidy, though it felt cold compared with other holiday apartments we know in Göhren, including ones in "Nordstrand" and neighboring "Residenz Eintracht". It’s right in the center of the Baltic Sea resort of Göhren. The North Beach and the more romantic South Beach are both a few minutes away on foot, and you can use the local bus with a visitor’s card. Two supermarkets, two bakeries, a pharmacy, and more are less than a two-minute walk away. The amenities were mixed. There’s a kitchenette, TV, vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, and Wi-Fi, but lots of little everyday things were missing. Some knives were broken, the sofa bed had its problems, and there were no clothespins, candlesticks, or plastic containers.

We stayed as a couple at Haus Südstrand from October 1st to 9th, 2018. Its central location is a real plus, and the indoor pool with sauna is only 250 meters away and open to all guests. Our two-room apartment had a kitchen, dining table, and balcony, and was a good size. The wardrobe had no shelves, though perhaps they’d simply been forgotten. There’s an underground garage as well as outdoor parking. Each apartment has its own cellar, useful for bikes, and there’s a coin-operated washer and dryer. I’d recommend it.
