Without a microwave, managing a toddler was a real challenge, and the tiny fridge was practically useless. The little sink area also meant we had to wash and dry things straight away, which got annoying on holiday. We were a family of five, and while the apartment was otherwise quite nice, those things made the stay difficult. The beach walk was longer than expected. We chose this place specifically because we thought it was close to the beach, but there wasn’t a map of the attached hotel, so we didn’t know about the walk. If we had, we could have booked somewhere else.

Apartment 801 was very clean and had plenty of space. We did have a few problems: although we got written confirmation that we could use the pool at the hotel on site, we couldn’t. The bed and couch creaked a lot, and there was an unpleasant urine smell coming from the bathroom.

The management was very helpful, and the maisonette itself was quite nice. Still, it disappointed us as a two-room apartment for four. It was really just a small room with stairs up to the sleeping area, and there was no door between the two spaces, so we couldn’t sit downstairs after the children went to bed. The cleanliness could have been better too.

Villa Sonja is right in the heart of Göhren, with the beach about a 10-minute walk away. Edeka and Sky are both within 500 meters, and there are several good restaurants close by, though they close by 9:30 pm at the latest. Our parking space was right outside, and the grounds were clean and well kept. The apartment was beautifully furnished, with lots of storage. The kitchen had a dishwasher and plenty of dishes, glasses, cups, pots, and cutlery. There was a TV with many channels, a DVD player, a cozy conservatory, and working blinds on all the windows. The upstairs sleeping area was comfortable and had a fantastic sea view. The extra linen package was the one big drawback. It cost €12 per person, or €36 for the three paying adults, and included bedding plus three towels, two small and one large. The sheet had a huge hole, although it was easy to hide because it was so large. Exchanging towels cost another €3 each, so for our seven-day stay we had to use the same towel all week. I’ve never had an arrangement like that in any other holiday rental or guesthouse. It felt like a rip-off.
