Villa Sonneck Appartement 20

Apartment 21 was very roomy, and aside from a few spiders, it was clean. There’s a large TV in every room. The balcony was the biggest disappointment: although the apartment was advertised with one, it can only be reached by taking the hallway stairs. It’s dirty, shaded, and faces the corridor to other apartments, so there’s no privacy. We didn’t use it. There were a few other problems too. The radio wouldn’t turn on, and the shower heads sprayed in every direction. Since leaving food behind can result in a fine, you have to buy all the basics fresh when you arrive, including sugar, salt, oil, and spices.

The location made the stay especially convenient, close to the beach and right on the main shopping street. We had a parking space for the apartment, and the elevator made moving our luggage in and out easy. The place was spotless, with a roomy balcony and large bedrooms. Inside, the furnishings were stylish and comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the bathrooms were modern. We were above the Italian restaurant but never found it noisy. We wished we could have stayed longer.

The apartment was lovely and had plenty of space, but the noise was hard to live with. Music played all day, and often late into the night, from the pizzeria and the cocktail and ice cream stand downstairs. There was also a compressor from the pasta machine running practically beneath the bed. It was impossible to sit peacefully on the big, beautiful balcony. A shame. If you enjoy being on the Italian beach promenade, though, this could be the place for you.

The apartment itself was fine, but I couldn't really use the balcony because Italian pop music played constantly from the restaurant below. The staff also made so much noise while cleaning that we had to shut the windows to get any peace, even when trying to go to bed at 11 pm. Music from the ground floor went on all day and sometimes until midnight. In the mornings, some kind of kitchen machine downstairs made the bedroom noisy too. I wouldn't recommend it unless you happen to get a room at the back or something like that.
