Landgasthof Achatz

The Achatz family and their staff are very friendly, and we feel at home here. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished, with comfortable beds and good mattresses. Half-board guests can order from the menu, and breakfast is buffet-style. The food is excellent. Rooms facing the main road can be noisy in the morning, though at night it’s so quiet you can hear leaves falling.

We make a point of visiting the Achatz restaurant on every holiday. The menu is good traditional German food, and the meat is superb. My daughter says their schnitzel is the best in the world, and she knows her schnitzel.

The food options are excellent, as you’d expect from an inn with its own butcher shop. I did find the prices a little high for a country inn, though. I’m also unsure what to make of the decor. It feels rather unloved, much like at other rural inns in Bavaria, and seems short on atmosphere and out of step with the times.

The team was very friendly, and the meat was really good. The side dishes and sauces let the meal down, though. Some of the ready-made spaetzle were still hard, and the sauce had clumps of powder in it. My last visit was much better.
